All Piaget–ed out

21 Apr

Here is the picture of the man I am now memorizing for school. Nothing personal against the exceptional man who was deeply intrigued by childrens mistakes;however, I am bored with this and would rather be reading about renal function. To help me bear through this chapter I will post my studies here….

I apologize to anyone I have bored and your welcome to anyone who loves this.

This is an essay on the development of cognition; that is knowledge is aquried and problems are hence solved. Excited yet?

How do children learn the world, how do they know how to learn the world? This is partly a lesson in philosphy. This is genetic epistemology–this is how we come to know reality which is space timie and causality. It is emergence–development–how we come to be and how we come to percieve.

Intelligence and its development: Intelligence is a basic function in life. Intelligent people according to nurse Jane are those that can adapt to our environments. How does this develop? Well….through organization and adaptations. We adapt through assimilation and accommodation.

The stagesof Cognitive development according to Piaget. These happen in all children but at different rates. Some are quicker than others.

1. Sensorimotor–birth to 2 years–reflex activity(sucking)primary circular reactions(kicking, repetition of interesting acts) –secondary circular reactions(repetition of interesting acts with objects)coordination of secondary schemes (solve simple problems begin to have intentions)tertiary circular reactions(experiments)-beginning of thought (insight, mental problem solving begins pretend play).

2.Preoperational–2-7 years–

Words symbols run wild for these preschoolers. Imagnaiary friends are common. Static thought is common and the concept of conservation is lacking. They may be egocentric veiewing the worldonly from their view. Are parts included into the whole big picture? no.

Perhaps Piaget underestimated preschoolers .

3. Concret operations–7-11 years–Conservation–Seriation(length.weigh)–logic–transitivity(solving problems. Egocentrism is overcome–seeing the world from others views.

4. Formal operations

Object permanence?

When you put your keys in your bag are they really in there? Of course they are. That is reality. This is not learned by the infant till around 18months.

Symbolic or representational thought is the last to emerge in this first sensormotor stage.

The Preoperational stage. 2-7

Words symbols run wild for these preschoolers. Imagnaiary friends are common. Static thought is common and the concept of conservation is lacking. They may be egocentric veiewing the worldonly from their view. Are parts included into the whole big picture? no. Centration.

Concrete Operations 7-11 years

Conservation–Seriation–logic–transitivity. Egocentrism is overcome–seeing the world from others views. reversibility of thought–decentration–transoformational thought.

Formal Operations-Adolescent

Can think logically–it is hypothetical an abstract.

*I will move on to Vygotzky tomorow.

I am done with this for now. I am just not interested. I apologize.
